Therapy for Eating Disorders
Eating disorders are mental health conditions that take over so many pieces of your life. They impact your relationship with food, your body and yourself. They can become all consuming, with serious emotional and physical consequences. Eating disorders are highly prevalent and do not discriminate - anyone of any age, race, gender, ethnicity, body shape and size can develop one.
Early diagnosis and treatment provide better outcomes, but it’s never too late to receive treatment and support.
Often when someone is navigating an eating disorder, the biggest fear in recovery isn’t the damage the ED can do, but rather the fear of living without it. Eating disorders often give a false sense of safety and security while slowly chipping away at your health and your life. They often allow people to feel numb to the things happening in their lives, which short-term, can seem like a helpful coping strategy. Long-term though, it can cause devastating consequences. We will work together to understand your eating disorder and find new ways to cope and heal.
Recovery is a journey but it’s possible and worth it!
Do I have an eating disorder?
If you’re asking the question, something isn’t quite right. Many people start to ask themselves this once they notice patterns in their eating that cause distress. Eating disorders, like most things, exist on a spectrum. While you may have a specific diagnosis like Anorexia, Bulimia, Binge Eating Disorder, ARFID, you also may not - but that doesn’t take away from the struggles and pain you’re experiencing.
NEDA, the National Eating Disorders Association, offers a screening tool that may help you start exploring this question. Please note that this does not offer a diagnosis, but rather will help you consider your own food-related behaviors, thoughts and feelings.
